Once in awhile, while fishing through the shelves at my favorite previously-viewed video stores, I run into a wonderful gem hidden somewhere between "Gone With the Wind" and "The Cheerleader Massacre." It was here that I found "Lady in the Box," which stars Darren E. Burrows (Northern Exposure and Forty Shades of Blue). Wow, who said you had to have mega budget to tell a decent story that keeps this viewer on the edge of her seat! Take a bartender, a boat, a trunk, a body, and 500 bucks and experience 107 minutes worth of thrills and suprises that will keep you glued in front of your media screen. I'd love to see a lot more from writer/director Christan Otjen in the very near future. |

Incidentally, be sure to stay for the credits at the end and a few outtakes from the film--not to mention a few cool tunes by Jake--which I had to add to my expansive mp3 collection. Looks like I'll have to start scouting film festivals and smaller markets for first-rate films. Or I can continue my mad movie hunt at the local video stores, hopefully encountering another great flick to add to my ever-expanding collection.
