A Spiritual Journey with Eagle Man, Ed McGaa

by Tikki Benit Dai

Join us Friday, 28 January 2005, at 5:30 p.m. eastern time, for a Fireside Chat with author, spiritual teacher, and lecturer Eagle Man, Ed McGaa, who will speak on Natural Spirituality, including the Six Powers of the Universe, the Four Horses of the Apocalypse, and insight from his latest book, NATURE'S WAY: NATIVE WISDOM FOR LIVING IN BALANCE WITH THE EARTH. Mr. McGaa describes "Natural Spirituality" as the "deep reverence for the power that lives within" Nature and its direct relationship to the human spirit.

Mr. McGaa's own life's journey has taken him from the Pine Ridge Reservation of the Oglala Sioux in South Dakaota to Korea, where he served as a Marine Corporal, then on to Vietnam, where he flew 110 combat missions as a Marine Corps fighter pilot. He received eight Air Medals, 2 Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citations, and was recommended for a Distinguished Flying Cross.

Also during his journey, Mr. McGaa received his Bachelor's Degree from St. John's University in Minnesota and a law degree from The University of South Dakota. As for his spiritual teachings, he studied under the tutelage of two Sioux Holy Men, Chief Eagle Feather and Chief Fool's Crow, and was greatly influenced by the visions of Sioux leader Nicholas Black Elk, who lived 1863-1950. It is upon the childhood visions of Black Elk that Mr. McGaa draws inspiration for his book, NATURE'S WAY. Eagle Man has been honoured by his own poeple, the Oglala Sioux, for having participated six times in the scared Sun Dance ceremony.
