Greetings. Your pal, Va Black Bear here. There are people with jobs that they love, then there are people with jobs that they cannot stand. I happen to be one of the lucky ones; I have a job that I love. But it's a thankless job. When I tell people that I'm a truck driver, many negative thoughts race through their minds. To most people, I'm a road-hogging, knuckle-dragging, beer-belly, out-of-shape Neanderthal that has no place in decent society. They couldn't be farther from the truth.

People ofttimes forget how important trucks are to the economy. Pratically ALL things--from clothing, cars, building materials, fuels, raw materials, livestock, produce, FEMA emergency aid, etc.--were, at one point or another, transported by trucks. Instead of thanks, I've received cigarette butts flicked at my grill, trash thrown at my truck, people spitting at me, and the infamous middle finger tossed in my direction. Its disheartening to know that so many people pay no mind to our significance to our economy.

When you see a truck, please don't view us as overgrown pests. We may be hauling parts for your next new car or ingredients for your favorite salad, or even the medication for an ill loved one. We may even be hauling fireworks for your 4th of July celebrations, candy and costumes for Halloween, Turkeys for your Thanksgiving feast, X-mas trees and presents for Christmas, and yes, even clocks, calanders, and champagne for your Happy New Year! So when you venture out and see a trucker, thank him or her. It'll mean a lot.
